Direct bonding or porcelain veneers

Direct bonding or porcelain veneers
In order to make clinical decision what is best, we have to take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of both methods for aesthetic front teeth restoration.

Direct bonding

Advantages
  • A quick, on the spot, decision, correction possibilities according to the patient's desire
  • Aesthetic, a very good imitation of natural teeth
  • Very gentle- often no filing of the tooth is needed
  • Easily repaired on the spot and subject to alterations
  • Suitable for small chipping, wiping of the tooth neck.

Attention
  • They need frequent checkups and polishing so that they keep their colour and brightness
  • If patients are smokers, brush their teeth rigorously, consume raw food and nuts, they change colour rapidly and wear off.

Porcelain veneers

Advantages
  • Long lasting solution –up to 10 or more years
  • They keep their smoothness, colour and brightness regardless of food, drinks or smoking
  • Porcelain is highly biologically tolerable material- it does not cause gum inflammation because it does not retain plaque
  • Minimal filing, suitable for patients with no significant tooth damage

Attention
  • They require a couple of visits and are manufactured in collaboration with a dental lab
  • They cannot be repaired easily
  • They are not suitable for patients who grind their teeth
